How to set up FieldGenius with NTRIP corrections

MicroSurvey FieldGenius supports NTRIP corrections natively on both Android and Windows. This guide walks you through connecting to any NTRIP correction service — step by step, for both platforms.

Before you start

Make sure you have the following ready before opening FieldGenius:

Requirements

Which version do you have?

FieldGenius for Android (FGA) is the current version for most users. The Windows version has a slightly different menu structure. Use the tabs below to follow the correct guide for your platform.

Setup on Android

1
Create or open a project

Launch FieldGenius and tap New Project or open an existing one. Set your coordinate system and distance units to match your job requirements before connecting to the receiver.

2
Connect to your receiver

Tap Select InstrumentAdd Profile. Choose your receiver make and model from the dropdown (for example, Emlid RS3 or Generic NMEA). Give the profile a name and tap Create.

Under Communication, select Bluetooth and pair with your receiver. Once connected, you will see satellite count and PDOP in the status bar.

3
Configure RTK via Internet

In the instrument settings, go to Set Up Corrections and tap RTK via Internet.

Tap Set Up Internet and choose Data Collector as the internet source. This uses your phone's mobile data or Wi-Fi connection to reach the NTRIP server.

4
Add your NTRIP source

Tap Set Up Data SourceAdd New Source. Fill in your NTRIP credentials:

Address ntrip.your-service.com
Port 2101
Mountpoint RTCM3_XX (choose from sourcetable)
Username your-username
Password your-password

Tap Get Source Table to load available mountpoints from the server, then select the one that matches your device and location.

5
Set antenna height and connect

Set the Antenna Height to the distance from the ground to the bottom of your receiver. FieldGenius will add the antenna offset automatically based on your receiver profile.

Tap Connect. FieldGenius will establish the NTRIP connection and begin streaming corrections to your receiver.

6
Verify RTK Fix

Watch the status indicator in FieldGenius. It should progress from SingleDGPS or FloatFixed. In a good environment with a nearby reference station, Fix typically arrives within 10–60 seconds.

You are ready to collect or stake out points once the status shows RTK Fixed.

Fix confirmed

When FieldGenius shows RTK Fixed, your position accuracy is at centimetre level. The data counter in the Link Information dialog should show steadily increasing bytes — this confirms corrections are flowing.

Setup on Windows

The Windows version of FieldGenius uses a slightly different menu path for NTRIP configuration.

1
Connect to instrument and establish reference

Start FieldGenius and connect to your GNSS receiver as usual. If using a rover-only setup with NTRIP, skip the base station steps and proceed directly to link configuration.

2
Open Link Configure

Go to Instrument Settings Link Configure.

Set Link Device to Data Collector Internet. Click Setup, then Press to Modify.

3
Add NTRIP caster

In the NTRIP Casters dialog, click Add and enter your NTRIP server address and port. Then enter your username and password.

Click Get Mountpoints to retrieve the available sourcetable from the server. Select the correct mountpoint for your receiver and location.

4
Set data format and connect

In the Data Format section, select RTCM3. This is the standard format used by virtually all modern NTRIP services.

Click Connect. The Bytes column in the Link Information dialog will begin incrementing — this confirms the correction stream is flowing.

NTRIP credentials reference

You need these five pieces of information from your NTRIP correction service. For RTKsub, use the values below:

Host / Address ntrip.rtksub.com
Port 2101
Mountpoint — most receivers RTCM3_NL
Mountpoint — long baseline (>30 km) RTCM3_NL_VRS
Mountpoint — high-end survey grade RTCM3_NL_MSM7
Username / Password your RTKsub credentials

Enable GGA for VRS mountpoints

If you select a VRS mountpoint, FieldGenius must send your position back to the NTRIP server. In the NTRIP settings, enable Send GGA to caster or Transmit NMEA GGA. Without this, the VRS server cannot generate a local correction and will return no data.

Troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause Fix
Cannot connect to NTRIP server Wrong host, port blocked, no internet Check host and port (2101). Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. Ask IT to open TCP port 2101 outbound.
Sourcetable loads but no mountpoints appear Wrong credentials or empty network Verify username and password. Try a different mountpoint name from your service's documentation.
Stuck on Float, not reaching Fix Long baseline, obstructions, wrong mountpoint Switch to VRS mountpoint. Move to open sky. Check baseline distance to nearest station.
VRS returns no data GGA not being sent to server Enable "Send GGA to caster" in NTRIP settings. You need at least a Single solution before GGA has a valid position.
Fix drops frequently Unstable internet connection Use a dedicated mobile hotspot rather than phone tethering. Check signal strength in your working area.
Coordinate offset at Fix Wrong coordinate system in project Verify project CRS matches your job datum. For Netherlands: RD New (EPSG:28992) with RDNAPTRANS. For UK: OSGB36 with OSTN15.

Emlid receivers and FieldGenius on Windows

When using an Emlid receiver with FieldGenius on Windows, configure NTRIP in Emlid Flow (ReachView) first, then open FieldGenius. On Windows, FieldGenius does not directly control the Emlid NTRIP connection — the receiver handles it independently and streams corrected positions to FieldGenius via Bluetooth or serial.
